New Build Marine Painter
Job Summary:
The WCY Painter prepares metal, wood, and fiberglass surfaces and applies a complete system of specific marine coatings according to processes detailed by the coatings manufacturer. The typical work process will include making small fiberglass repairs, filling, and fairing these repairs with surfacing filler, and sanding these surfaces to the correct texture. They also paint parts, equipment, interior and exterior of vessels utilizing brushes, spray guns and rollers.
Responsibilities:
- Surface preparation includes stripping, scuffing, sanding, masking, and priming surfaces.
- Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer, as appropriate, to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of boats.
- Utilize hand and power tools including but not limited to; scraper, wire brush, needle gun, grinder, pneumatic chipper, basic tools, sandpaper, etc.
- Knowledge of the requirements for varnish prepping and sealing and the products utilized.
- Meet environmental requirements and best marina practices in acquisition, application, removal and disposal of paint, paint waste or residuals in accordance with OSHA requirements and federal and state laws.
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years’ experience preferred, However, will train the right highly motivated people.
- Previous experience with yacht coating systems preferred.
- Must be able to use power tools, hand tools, or chemicals to accomplish cleaning of surfaces prior to applying coating systems.
- Commercial coatings training in urethane systems a plus
- Ability to ascend and descend a ladder.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
